Introduction

Imagine a world where women could feel safe and empowered at work and home. Unfortunately, statistics tell a different story. According to WHO reports, 1 in 3 women worldwide experience physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or gender-based violence in their lifetime.

By addressing gender-based violence, we aim to contribute to the broader conversation surrounding gender equality and human rights. Furthermore, gender-based violence is often shrouded in silence and stigma, making it even more imperative to raise awareness and advocate for change. Through our project, we hope to shed light on this pervasive issue, challenge harmful attitudes and behaviors, and provide support and resources for survivors.

Problem Statement:

How can we effectively ensure safety and provide comprehensive support systems for women recovering from gender-based violence?

Solutions:

By harnessing the power of AI technology, Blossom triggers a call to 911 upon detecting the SOS code listens to the high-decibel sounds, starts live video recording, collects evidence, and provides support through resources. Blossom empowers women worldwide.

DAY 2

Competitive Analysis

Noonlight and Bsafe both offer personal safety apps catering to individuals who may find themselves in potentially unsafe situations. Both apps provide emergency dispatch features, with additional functionalities for enhanced safety.

Strengths:

  • Both apps are easy to use and offer straightforward interfaces.

  • They effectively leverage smartphone resources such as GPS, camera, and microphone.

  • Positive user ratings on app stores indicate user satisfaction with the services provided.

Weaknesses:

  • Both apps face issues with accidental activation of panic buttons, potentially leading to unnecessary alerts.

  • Bsafe lacks free features, which may deter users from trying the app.

  • Noonlight’s notifications on the app persist even when clicked outside, potentially causing inconvenience to users.

Opportunities:

  • Integration of voice activation features could enhance user experience and accessibility.

  • Offering additional security measures such as extra pin security and automatic messages to emergency contacts could attract more users.

Threats:

  • Both companies need to regain user trust after encountering bugs and crashes, which could lead to negative perceptions of their reliability.

3 Major Improvements

1. Passive Listening

  • Blossom records high-decibel sounds indicative of distress, such as the breaking of objects or screaming. An alarm activates for 10 minutes upon detection of these sounds.

  • By merging the screens, users no longer need to navigate through multiple menus to manage the alarm status.

  • Placing the alarm control prominently on one screen ensures that users can quickly locate and interact with it, even in stressful situations.

2. Active Listening

  • By introducing the stop button for video recording, Blossom enhances the user experience providing users with a sense of control in distressing situations.

  • Users now have greater confidence in utilizing the live video recording feature, knowing they can control the recording process effectively.

3. Simplified the Home Page

  • Simplified the homepage to improve user focus.

  • A bottom navigation bar was added to provide users with quick access to essential features and functionalities of the app.

  • Moved shelters to a different page where users can easily find them. Shelters offer users a safe and secure environment where they can escape from the cycle of abuse and protect themselves from harm.
